Eco Green Build Partners Colaborative

The Eco Green Build project is a cooperative effort being led by Ecofest Barrie producer Doug Pettigrew and Back2Basics, Andrew Miller. This model of sustainability showcase pavilion will be the first of its kind and will feature a collaborative effort showcasing new technologies relating to sustainable and healthy living.

Doug Pettigrew, the producer of Ecofest Barrie originally formed a partnership with the City of Barrie to present Ecofest Barrie at Heritage Park as a model that he has worked on for several years. Pettigrew brought the notion of Ecofest Barrie to City officials in 2009 with visions of creating a "go to" opportunity for Barrie and area to learn about innovative ways towards healthier and more sustainable futures. 2010 saw the anural event draw thousands of passionate green thinkers to a presentation that featured hundreds of displays, events and ideas for protecting and celebrating the beauty of our area. 2011 will be even better and will feature Pettigrew's design and collaborative project of the Eco Green Build project. Joining forces with Andrew Miller of Back2Basics will give new meaning and even further outcome beyond the weekend event.

The Eco Green Build project is a cooperative effort introduced by Ecofest Barrie and Back2Basics lead Andrew Miller. This model of sustainability showcase pavilion will be the first of its kind in Canada, and will feature presentations and operating models from some of Barrie and Area's leading organizations.

Remodeling a discarded shipping container profile is creating the mobile, operating pavilion. The container home model is selected to best showcase the notion of re-using and re-purposing. Secure Store of Innisfil who is excited to showcase this as a first for Barrie and area offers the model. Secure Store is a Canadian company that specializes in new and used steel shipping containers used for a wide variety of applications including storage and moving. Secure Store has customization facilities located in Barrie, Ontario, and can create site offices, restroom facilities, living quarters, portable businesses and unique container applications which our clients bring to them Founded in 1986, Secure Store has quickly become a leader in the modification of steel shipping containers for practical uses.

The project is also being supported by Habitat for Humanity who will provide leadership and project consultation as well as their Re-store product offerings. Habitat will also be leading in areas of re-purposing household items and will have a special guest presentation from National Restore Services Canada – Rob Voisin

Features of the Eco Green Build will both showcase and demonstrate methods and technologies by the following organizations that are working collaboratively on this important build.

Every day we see geothermal technology making a difference in the lives of someone's family, so we know our vision of a "greener" Ontario is attainable. Installing GeoExchange technology has the same environmental impact as taking 2-3 vehicles off the road forever, or planting 1 acre of trees.

We're doing our part to make that vision a reality by helping one home at a time rid themselves of wasteful and inefficient heating and cooling systems. We take that responsibility seriously. Part of that responsibility is educating people on how our systems work, why they make sense, and what they can do for you.
